Second flush
The summer plucking, taken after the bush has pushed out new growth under stronger sun. The leaf comes off riper and more robust than in spring, carrying deeper sugars and a fuller body.
Amber Ridge is heavily oxidised and finished dark, which is punishing for a delicate leaf. The mature second-flush leaf has the density to take that treatment and come out with its roasted depth and lingering sweetness intact. A fine spring leaf would be flattened by the same process.
Amber Ridge is an exceptional tea that redefines luxury with its spicy, biscuity, and peppery aromas, offering a full-bodied richness that elevates tea to the status of a fine wine.
Our Amber Ridge Oolong is a distinctive and artistic tea that stands apart from the lighter Taiwanese oolongs, resembling the darker, roasted Chinese varieties. Unlike typical oolongs, it skips the multiple rolling and oxidation stages. Instead, mature leaves are plucked, withered for a few hours, and treated with an enzyme to soften them and halt oxidation partially. The leaves then undergo a 30-40 minute rolling process at varying pressure levels. Afterward, they are oxidized for about 2 hours before being finished in a commercial dryer. This method results in a dark, heavily oxidized oolong with a rich, nutty flavor. We’ve been enthusiastic about this tea since its debut, and it has consistently garnered excellent reviews.
